How Do I Know if I Need a Tire Alignment?
There are a few telltale signs that your vehicle needs a wheel alignment:
- Steering wheel vibration
- Vehicle pulls to one side
- Off-center steering wheel when driving straight
- Uneven tread wear
Alignment Angles
What exactly is being adjusted during a wheel alignment? Here are the three different angles we take into account when performing a front end alignment.
Camber
Camber is an outward or inward tilt to the tire when you look at it from the front of the vehicle. Known as positive or negative camber, this tilt can be caused by worn ball joints, bearings, or other parts of the suspension.
Toe
Toe alignment is an outward or inward tilt when viewed from above. Both tires should be parallel and point directly forward. If the tires point toward or away from each other, they need to be realigned.
Caster
The caster angle is the angle of your steering axis when viewed from the side of your vehicle. It should be straight up and down rather than pointed toward the driver or the front of the vehicle. An altered caster angle can affect stability, steering, and cornering.
